A giant eyeball mystery has Miami residents scratching their heads this week.
A massive blue eyeball washed ashore on Wednesday in Florida’s Pompano Beach.
Experts do not yet know from which species the softball-size eyeball came. Judging by its size, some believe it could have come from a giant squid or a whale.
A local man found the eyeball on Wednesday and reported it to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
“He was walking along the beach and found it and thought it looked like something cool,” said Carli Segelson, spokeswoman for the commission.
Wildlife officers have put the eyeball on ice.
It will be preserved in formalin and shipped to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute in St. Petersburg for further analysis.
